3-D Embossing Folder: Heart cards with a special texture ❤️

Sometimes all it takes is paper, a beautiful heart motif, and a little bit of creative time to bring someone personal joy.

Would you like to design cards that don’t just look pretty, but also feel special? With the "Mark Making Hearts" 3-D embossing folder by Kath Breen, your paper will gain an expressive heart relief. At Kidis Art, we show you what you can do with it – and how it turns step-by-step into a lovely greeting card.

What makes the 3-D embossing folder special?

The embossing folder transforms flat paper into a tactile surface as it passes through a suitable die-cutting and embossing machine. The bold, layered heart design gives your papercraft projects depth without the need to stick on many individual embellishments.

Embossing instead of cutting

With embossing, the motif is pressed into the paper as a relief rather than being cut out. Light and shadow bring the texture to life. This is why the heart design works wonderfully on simple paper in particular.

Important: Check in advance whether your machine is suitable for this 3-D embossing folder. Use the plate combination recommended by the machine manufacturer and never force the folder through the machine.

Crafting guide: A heart card with a personal message

Whether for a birthday, Mother's Day, or simply as a little thank you: the colors of this card can be perfectly tailored to your loved one.

Your list of materials

  • "Mark Making Hearts" 3-D embossing folder by Kath Breen
  • A suitable die-cutting and embossing machine including appropriate plates
  • Paper or cardstock suitable for your machine and the embossing folder
  • A card blank
  • Scissors or a paper trimmer
  • Paper glue or double-sided tape
  • A pen for your greeting
  • Optional: Ink pad and a small paper tag

Step 1: Choose colors and cut the paper

Choose a card blank and matching paper for your embossed motif. Cream and pink appear soft, while red makes a bold statement. Cut the motif paper so that it fits into the folder and leaves a small border all around on your card.

Step 2: Emboss the heart relief

Place your paper inside the embossing folder and position the motif as desired. Pass the closed folder through your machine using the designated plate combination. Then open it carefully and remove the embossed paper.

Step 3: Emphasize the texture as desired

Do you like it simple? Then let the relief speak for itself. For additional color accents, you can lightly brush an ink pad over the raised areas. Test the ink application on a scrap piece first to get a feel for the pressure.

Step 4: Assemble and write on the card

Attach the embossed paper to the card blank without unnecessarily flattening the texture. If desired, add a small tag that says "For you" or "Merci." There is space inside for a few handwritten lines – those are exactly what make your card personal.

What else can you create with the heart design?

Invitations with a tactile detail

Use the embossed paper as a background or as a decorative strip on an invitation. Place important details on a smooth surface so they remain easy to read.

Scrapbooking pages full of memories

A heart relief pairs beautifully with photos of shared moments. Use small pieces of embossed paper as accents next to pictures and notes. This keeps your page uncluttered while still adding a special texture.

Gift tags and small paper greetings

Even smaller embossed pieces can be reused: cut them into tags or small cards for a gift. A short message on the back makes them a lovely companion.

What you need for this

For the heart relief in these projects, you will use this embossing folder. You will also need the basic materials listed above and a compatible machine.
