Designing a cardboard suitcase: Your own creative one-off 🧳
A suitcase full of ideas: with paint, paper, and your own personal touch, a plain DIY base becomes a favorite spot for little treasures.
Would you like to paint or decorate a cardboard suitcase? At Kidis Art, you will find the perfect base for this: the cardboard suitcase 35.5x25x10cm. Its sturdy cardboard surface can be designed with paint, glue, and paper appliqués. Whether as a personal memory box, creative gift packaging, or storage for craft supplies – you decide the look of your suitcase.
What can you do with the cardboard suitcase?
With its dimensions of 35.5 × 25 × 10 cm, the lightweight, dimensionally stable suitcase offers space for various small items. At the same time, you can decorate its surface exactly to your taste.
A memory box with personality
Design the lid with a name, a year, or a paper motif you've cut out yourself. Inside, you can collect letters, photos, and small mementos, for example.
Gift packaging to keep
Instead of wrapping paper, your gift gets an individually designed suitcase. Choose colors and motifs that suit the recipient: simple stripes, cheerful dots, or a small paper collage.
An organizer for your creative corner
Paper scraps, templates, and other lightweight craft supplies can be stored together inside. A glued-on label field shows you at a glance what is inside the suitcase.
Craft instructions: Painting and decorating a cardboard suitcase with paper
For this idea, you combine simple painting with cut-out paper shapes. You don't need complicated patterns – even a few colors and a personal motif make a big difference.
Your list of materials
- The cardboard suitcase 35.5x25x10cm as a design base
- Craft paint suitable for cardboard and a brush
- Paper for cut-out motifs or a name tag
- Craft glue suitable for paper and cardboard
- Pencil, scissors, and a protective mat for your table
These instructions introduce the cardboard suitcase from Kidis Art. You will need additional paint, paper, glue, and tools; they are not indicated as included accessories here.
1. Think about your motif
Place the suitcase on your workspace and plan the design. Do you want to paint the entire lid or just add individual accents? If necessary, lightly sketch your motif with a pencil. Dots, stripes, and simple geometric shapes are especially uncomplicated.
2. Apply the paint thinly
Test your paint on an inconspicuous area first. Then paint the desired surfaces in thin layers and follow the application instructions for the paint. Do not work too wet and let everything dry completely before you continue. Leave the handle, fasteners, and moving parts free.
3. Cut out your paper decorations
Prepare stars, circles, letters, or a name tag. Place the pieces loosely on the dry surface first. This allows you to try out different arrangements before you commit.
4. Glue the motifs on
Apply the appropriate glue sparingly and press the paper pieces on carefully. Be careful not to glue over any opening edges or moving parts. Let the glue dry according to the manufacturer's instructions before you fill your suitcase.
Which design suits you?
- Simple and personal: A painted border and a paper name tag.
- Colorful and playful: Combine colored dots with cut-out stars.
- As a theme suitcase: Choose paper motifs that match the contents, such as self-drawn pens for your craft supplies.
Would you rather work without paint? Then you can also decorate the cardboard suitcase exclusively with paper. Its visible cardboard surface then becomes part of your design.
